Maria Bravo & Eva Longoria Bastón preside over the first Global Gift Foundation Initiative in Scotland

Edinburgh, May 18th, 2017. The Global Gift Foundation turned Edinburgh into one of the capitals of solidarity making the city number 13 on its philanthropic map of Gala´s around the world. The founder and Chair, Maria Bravo, along with actress Eva Longoria Bastón, Honorary Chair, celebrated the first edition of the Global Gift Gala Edinburgh surrounded by great personalities from the world of culture, cinema and sport. The Scottish capital thus joined cities like London, Madrid, Paris, Dubai, Marbella, Haiku and Cannes. “We are very proud to have been able bring an initiative like this to Scotland and see the spectacular welcome we have had, which will allow us, once again, to help thousands of people,” said Maria Bravo. Eva Longoria Bastón stated that it was the first time she visited Edinburgh, “It is a beautiful city. Last night was very special and it was great to be able to help organizations like Place2Be.”
The charity event, held at the iconic Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh – The Caledonian, united art, solidarity and glamour. The model & presenter Vogue Williams and the television presenter Nick Ede were in charge of hosting the event that boasted the gastronomic seal of brothers Chris and Jeff Galvin. The chefs, both Michelin-starred thanks to the restaurants they run around the world, tailor made menu for the guests that fused Scottish tradition and avant-garde tendencies.
Bitter Sweet DJ´s, long time Global Gift supporters and actress Patsy Palmer provided the party tunes on the DJ decks and Britains Got Talent, Calum Scott performed his smash single “Dancing On My Own”. Francine Lewis and Place 2 Be´s children’s chorus also provided their talent during the event.
The first edition of The Global Gift Gala Edinburgh was attended by personalities such as model and television star Katie Piper, awarded in 2015 at The Global Gift Gala London for her humanitarian work; Game Of Thrones Actress Laura Pradelska, Outlander´s Scott Kyle, TV presenter Phil McKee, English model and DJ Charlotte de Carle, King Arthur: Excalibur Legend actor Craig McGinlay, Comedienne Francine Lewis, and BBC presenter and model Jean Johansson.
The gala was sponsored by Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh – The Caledonian and The Galvin Brothers, and had the collaboration of Fake Bake, Toni & Guy, Lyon & Turnbull, Equator Events and Fulford Flowers.
Humanitarian contribution awards
Global Gift Foundation honoured the philanthropic work of actor James McAvoy, with one of its most significant awards, The Global Gift Humanitarian Award, given to great professionals with a deep social conscience. People who despite their professional success have continued to heed requests for help and use their free time and efforts to support philanthropic projects in a selfless way. The protagonist of one of the X-Men films who recently premiered Split, is known for making donations to children suffering from cancer and solidarity platforms like JustGiving, among many other causes. “Due to changes in his filming schedule, James was not able to attend, but he has transmitted his emotion and deep gratitude for receiving this award,” added Maria Bravo.
Other Global Gifters honoured with this award around the world include Vicente del Bosque, Will.i.am, Mariah Carey, Pitbull, David Beckham and Ricky Martin among others. The Scottish entrepreneur Lady Susan Haughey, founder of one of the largest facilities management companies in Europe, received the Global Gift Philanthropist Award, which has been received by Leticia Casta, Zoe Saldana, Shemar Moore and Nicole Scherzinger. City Refrigeration Holdings, a leading company led by Lady Susan with her husband, has donated over five million pounds to various charitable causes through her City Charitable Trust organization. Lady Susan is a successful socially committed businesswoman and since 2002, when she founded her foundation, has helped thousands of people in Scotland and Africa. “For Global Gift Foundation, it is an honour to reward Lady Susan’s work; People like her are the ones who make a difference in a world in need of love for others, “said Maria Bravo.
Beneficiaries
The donations collected during the first Global Gift Gala Edinburgh will go to three foundations: Place2Be, Eva Longoria Foundation and Global Gift foundation.
Place2Be is a British organization that offers therapeutic and psychological services in more than 250 primary and secondary schools, reaching more than 116,000 children with problems such as bullying, domestic violence or abandonment.
The Eva Longoria Foundation, aims to improve the quality of life of women in need of help to improve their personal potential through business education and training. “We give them the impetus to achieve their dream, supporting education and entrepreneurship and helping them find great opportunities for their future,” said Eva Longoria.
The Global Gift Foundation will allocate the funds raised for its flagship project, the Global Gift House in Marbella, a multifunctional space that offers specialized support and equipment for children suffering from chronic and rare diseases as well as support for their family environment.
